Minutes to Live networking party

We're getting together for a Minutes to Live networking party on December 12th if anyone is interested in finding out more about the project, wants to share ideas, or wants to watch some of the videos that we have completed.

Eddie over at The Next Page bar in Weymouth is hosting a party for us on December 12th at 6pm. Everyone is welcome, whether you were involved in making a Minutes to Live video, want to make one in the future or just want to come out and schmooze with us. He'll be putting out some food and there will be a cash bar. We'll have some of the Minutes to Live videos playing on the TVs too. (So if you want to make a video of your own to be shown that night, there's still time!)

MTL project

I'm currently looking for actors that might be interested in collaborating on a web video series I am producing. You and I would come up with a character and short scene based on a larger concept I have for the series. Then we would film it and produce it as a web video (YouTube, etc.). Each scene/episode is only two minutes long, so it wouldn't take more than an hour to film. I'm hoping to find actors that might have access to a location as well (houses, apartments, exteriors, etc. work fine for this). It would be filmed with a consumer videocamera in most cases, although if there are any videographers with equipment that want to get involved too that would be great.

This is an Internet project, obviously with no pay. The goal of the project is to network with actors and crew and to produce a series of videos to use for online exposure. I'm also hoping the concept might go viral and large numbers of people would get involved, which would in turn result in more exposure for us all. You would get onscreen credit for acting and if you helped with the story, as a writer/co-writer.

Contact me if you're interested in learning more and I'll share the concept with you. I have some characters/episodes written already but am open to working with your ideas as well.

Joy Wish Reading

I'm looking for some friends to do a videotaped reading of my screenplay "Joy Wish." The script is a family Christmas story that I am considering producing next winter. I'm working on a re-write now and doing a reading will help with feedback and edits.

I'm looking at doing it on a Sunday afternoon towards the end of May. I will be videotaping it for myself and possibly for future fundraising. We'll do it out at my house and maybe do potluck after?

Casting is coming along nicely for Polly and the Murderers, quite a lot of applicants. I will be scheduling auditions this week so make sure to let me know if you are interested. If you're interested in the role of Damian we can do it over the phone, just make sure to tell the woman in your life that the phone sex is just for an acting gig :)

I'm also trying to narrow down some locations. Still looking for a church that we can use, though to be honest I haven't asked around yet. And the apartment ext, hallway, living room for about 3-5 days of shooting.

I'm excited to have optioned my feature screenplay "Huggs" to Josh Casaubon and Stephanie Fischer Casaubon of Leo's Playground. We're looking at a 2009 production date as the story takes place in New England at Thanksgiving time. More info as it comes!

Here's the synop:
HUGGS is a feature screenplay made up of ten smaller stories/vignettes each featuring men either giving or receiving a hug. The script contains ten separate stories, with new locations and characters for each. The stories, while independent of each other, are related in that they all take place on Thanksgiving day, in the same town, and all involve men hugging. There are many characters, but most are smaller parts so the script could be filmed in stages and is quite flexible. It is low budget, with no fx, easy locations, no large crowd scenes, etc.

The individual stories each involve at least two men in some sort of conflict or situation that results in a hug. Locations include houses, a night club, a football field, a hospital, an airport, a church and a homeless shelter. The emotions leading to the hugs range from protection to fear, forgiveness to sympathy, compassion to graciousness, sexual intimacy to joy.

Some of the characters in the stories include a 7 year old boy waiting for his father to pick him up for a visit, grandfathers visiting their baby granddaughter, a groom on the morning of his wedding, a horny recovering alcoholic, two teenage football players, a lonely soldier, a homeless man giving away free hugs, a gay man in a nightclub and a male nurse saying goodbye to his childhood friend.

Joy Wish Christmas Play

I have written a Christmas Play called "Joy Wish" that was designed for community theaters with actors of all ages. The play is available at my Lulu store (free download or purchase a hard copy).

The play is about a clumsy elf that must go undercover in a ballet class to find out the Christmas wish of a little girl that loves to dance and make people smile. Cast can include from 20-40 people, many gender-unspecific roles. Designed for community theaters with various ages.

If your group or theater is interested in producing the play I would be more than happy to grant you permission to perform it, with no royalities due. All I ask is that you inform me of your intent to produce, the dates and location, and if possible send me a copy of the program, promotional materials or dvd (proof of production will help me get the play published in the future).

Spot the Goal

The first feature screenplay I wrote was called "Spot the Goal." It's the story of a ballerina that falls for a football coach and ends up helping his team win the championship. The script is just sitting on a shelf now, not sure it will ever be re-visited as I feel I've grown as a writer since then.

I did however enter the script in a few screenwriting contests. It made the second round of The 20/20 Screenplay Contest, which gave me the motivation to continue writing and some much needed validation.
